Being incredibly lazy, I'm interested in producing an object that will allow me to follow another player without having to do it with keys (my connection lag is another factor here). As far as I can see, llTakeControls is more about getting input into the script than outputting it back to the AV. Where can I find a crashcourse in external AV control?

you'd be better off taking an open source follower script, and sitting on the prim it was in - instant follower vehicle.

I don't believe that LSL can inject keystrokes or commands into the system to move an av.

I was hoping to avoid having to sit on something, but I guess that's the way it is. I had thought since there is command pass-through functionality in llTakeControls, there might be a way to alter those commands by passing through an object. Thanks for the tip. I'm guessing I can find some example code around here somewhere.

Actually, i wanted one of these too. Being new to SL, i was use to the /follow command from the MMOs i play. I was going to create one (still might if ic an figure it out), however i did find that Timeless Prototype already created something close to the same thing. Its an attachment you wear and you can set it to follow the nearest Avatar, or it will follow or lead anyone who has the same attachment. The nice thing is the "nearest" avatar option doesnt care if someone has the item or not.

Heh almost forgot.. the name of it was called "Walk and Talk" i think its at version 1.9 or something like that. I got it at his Timeless Gadgets store.

not hard at all, in fact the hug script that's so prevalant uses something that does exactly what you want on an attachment, it just only does it temporarily to move the huggers together.

Sounds like a call to revamp my old FollowWidget. I'll put it on the Actionable Items list and get back to ya'll...

Just use llMoveToTarget or llApplyImpulse repeatedly to have yourself follow a person. Add a partial name sensor and your done.

Of course, youd have to program something that turns it off when your within a range from the person, otherwise you would keep knocking into them repeatedly.

Personally, I would use sit and a non-phys engine.
