Hi,
Total noob here, im not sure if this is the right forum to be asking in but whatever.

I have built a guitar object and i want to wear it on my back. Im not sure how to go about defining where an object will sit when i say attach. Do i use scripting to accomplish this or am i barking up the wrong tree??

I dont think you're able to define exactly where an object rests when worn via script yet. Worn objects "remember" where they were on your avatar when they were attached, and "automagically" rez in that position when you wear them again.

oh sweet thanks, i didnt realize i could move an object around once it was attached thanks!!! Next question, im walking around sometimes my arm head ect will go through my guitar now that it is attached, is there any way to avoid this or is it just a matter of finding the best spot to attach it to and the right position?

Normally, you have to place the item in an inobtrusive spot, so that other items and body parts do not overlap the item. It can be really fun to do that with items in the hands, since they move them about so much.

As a side note, be sure to finish your item before attaching it. If you have to edit the object and unlink it to do so, you lose all position data for it and have to re-position it again when you attach it.

Good luck,

only if you relink it with a different parent object or change the parent object in some major way. if you unlink and change some of the child prims then relink to the same parent it will attach in the same spot. linksets kinda think they're only the parent object i think.
