Locking door and tinting windows questions.

So I've been practising with large-scale building for the past couple of weeks now and everything has been going really well. Only problem is that I can't seem to figure out a couple of scripts.

The first is the locking door. My thinking is that this is acheived by creating a script that enables the door to be switch to and from Phantom mode by touching. Am I right on that? Or is there something else that I'm missing?

My second delimma--and my primary objective--is figuring out the window tinting script. I have searched all over SL and all over the web and cannot find a good tutorial for this. I found one script on wiki.secondlife.com but I can't get it to work. What I want to do is create a switch that cycles through the opacity of my mini blinds prims by touching. Does anyone know of good tutorial or script for this?

I'd appreciate any help and tips that ya'll can give me. Thanks. ^^

There are many different door and window scripts in the Library (/15/1.html). Just trying search of that Forum generates a lot of hits to choose among.

Locked doors are meaningless in SL, so there isn't a lot of point to them.

The fact that things are meaningless in SL doesn't always, of course, stop people from being interested in how to script them.... I mean, planes and cars are a bit meaningless, as are elevators, since we can fly and tp, but some folks like to play with them.

I rather like locked doors since they at least give an indication to people that they aren't supposed just to wander in unannounced and uninvited.

Anyway, be that at is it may, there are some good (and lockable) door scripts available on this forum, either to use or to learn from . I would particularly recommend the Timeless Linked Door /54/c1/102699/1.html and the Multi User Lockable Door /54/22/24116/1.html . Both have been through several incarnations and versions they were first posted, so please take a look at the later versions in the threads as well as the first ones.

They aren't completely pointless either. You can implement other security precautions that keep people from bypassing the door. For example, teleporting home anyone who hasn't legitimately unlocked and passed through the door (alternately, anyone who wouldn't be allowed to open it), or having the unlocking/opening process add the subject to a parcel pass list. In such cases the door can truly add to the security functionality or can merely be a safeguard so people don't accidentally go plarces from which they will just be bounced anyway.

Thanks for all of the tips and links, guys. I'm going to check them out. ^^

Shifting Dreamscape, I'm just not starting to learn scripting so I'm no where near ready to write a full script myself. I prefer the ones that are available to use and learn from, like Innula mentioned.

Thanks again, everyone! ^^
