i only meet amateurs all the time. i read a lot of threads here, even though im not capable of scripting myself, this looks interesting as hell.

in game i only meet little kiddies that build weapons that dont even shoot straight (i got a gun that shoots everybody around me without my intention).

i wonder if there is a serious scripter on here that writes weapon scripts, if so, let me know.

yall do crazy things with these scripts and somehow i do not believe that i seen it all yet, as far as that goes.

i am guessing most of you wont be very fond of the idea of scripting guns.. im just wondering if there is someone in here that really knows about stuff like that because i refuse to spend 2k on another gun that turns out to be a joke.

funny is also, i see people selling scripted objects in game that are offered here for free.

so im really wondering...

are there no talanted scripters in game that run stores?

There's plenty of great scripters running stores. For weapons - which I don't know much about - straight off the top of my head there's Seburo, Templar Botworks, Tyrant Ludd...

I'm interested in scripting guns, purely because there aren't many public mod scripts around to do so, apart from the simple Linden Revolver scripts and so on. I post some of the details on my blog, but I'd love to discuss the matter here.

I've had to work most of my gun scripts out from first principles and a few hints from the helpful folk on the forums.

There are plenty of talented scripters in game, but the problem with them is that the good scripts are the ones you tend not to notice because they are doing exactly what they were supposed to =)

Certainly the scripting that takes the real talent is the stuff that you don't ever notice - you'd notice if it wasn't there, but you take it for granted when it is.

*sigh* ever it is thus so for programmers

The crude stuff like pushes, any fool can do that.

You'd think that would be true, but I actually can't get pushes to work at all. Possibly because I want something more specific from them than "Blast someone away", but I can't ever get them to work, bah.

Yah, controlled push is tricky. I've got an antigravity elevator that lifts an av at around 5 m/s to half a kilometer, then kicks them into a "catcher's mitt", and it's tricky... especially since there seem to be odd changes in the effective mass of the avatar as it passes through different altitudes. The code is ugly as hell but it works most of the time.

Oh, yes, to do useful stuff with them is an utter pain. I can never get the inverse cube thing to work properly when I'm trying to use them to, say, have beachballs bouncing off water. But gross "send you as far as I can" stuff is simple.

Kyran Nyak makes some of the best and most creative guns in SL. They're also pretty reasonably priced when compared to most other guns in SL that aren't nearly as capable or well built/scripted.
