External database communication

Quick question -

If I'm trying to integrate an external MySQL db with SL, what communication protocols do I have at my disposal?

Basically, when someone pays a vendor, the vendor needs to tell the DB "OK, please generate a unique key for me." Then the unique key needs to come back and be whispered to the purchaser.

I'm not planning to do this myself but will be posting a RPF for this project, so I just need to know what to specify in the RFP - "using HTTP GET or... ". Thanks so much!

...POST or XML RPC. Thanks, SL DEV :)

Be aware that sending XMLRPC still doesn't seem to be working, although the official wiki does not state that now. You can receive XML in, and reply to it, but to get data out you'll have to use httprequest or email.
Also, httprequests are blocked if you exceed a set amount.
