Where and How to Learn to Script?

While I have been in SL for some time, I've never learned to script. I would like to start learning, but the two online tutorials I looked at claimed that they were made for those who have never scripted before, yet were usuing words like boolean and integer without giving any explaination as to what these mean.

I am primarily an auditory learner, and I have asperger's syndrome as well. I need direct instruction. I am willing to pay, but I need to know there is a tutor out there or some place with much more basic lessons that are easier to follow for true programming neophytes. Can someone advise me?

There are free classes given at the new citizens plaza, (NCI).

If it's one on one tuition you're after, I'm happy to teach you the basics for free. Drop in to Furry Park sometime, or IM me.

Well, for auditory, one thing is to use the new First Look Voice viewer, or maybe Skype, or even the telephone. Another possibility in face-to-face. Find a tutor who is nearby.

Are you willing to pay real world tutoring fees? Tutors in High School subjects get $50/hour or even more. If bet if you are paying that, you would have your choice of tutors. On the other hand, if you want to pay L$50/hr, the tutor might as well do it for free.

So, that's step one.

Step two, maybe, is to decide what kind of script you want to write. A door is very different from a car or radio. Decide what kind, go find a freebie version here or in SL or at one of the Wikis, read it (not your strength, I understand), and then find a tutor who will talk to you.

I was looking for something via Yahoo Voice or phone. As for pay, I was hoping something in the L$1000 per hour range. I can't pay RL Tutoring rates, obviously, but I'm not looking for a hand out either. Also, if it was phone based, the person would have to be in the US or Canada. I don't want to call Brazil or Belgrade for hours on end.

Might be a good idea to come up with a few suggestions of what you are trying to accomplish with scripts. You've no doubt seen what scripts tend to do in various items in the game. Is there something particular that you'd like to be able to do/reproduce that might be used to guide instruction (ie something that your tutor can use as an example/lesson so that you come out of it with something directly useful to you?).
