Hello all this is purely a question and info finding post.

i have been messing with the open sourced scripts on the wiki's reguarding XYZ text and getting a basic message board set up using it.

so i resized my prim to make it a 3 face for the text to appear on, i edited the open sourced script to the face numbers i wanted the info to be displayed on i set a basic message with the example setout on the wiki and linked them to the test object in reverse order as described by the wiki for starters/beginner scripters.

i click my test menu button to send the link message and whoooops the message is not only cut off but does not carry over to the next prim creating a multi cell so to speak.

or when it did it just constandly put the same cut off message across all of the prims :(

now the wiki has an allow multiple cells script but i have no clue or no instructions on the wiki on how to get this to work or which prim it needs to go in further more the problem for getting the text to go onto the prims without being cut off is a pain in the back side lol

just not sure how to get the basic open source system to work its not a vital part of what im trying to do just wanted to mess with and create a reactive display board for the Store i sell my products in so it wont be sold but a board either myself or my partner can change to display messages like new products or information lol

so my question is using this open source script what am i doing wrong? lol

I'm not sure which Wiki you tried but this one has an excelent description of XyText and should get you up and running.

Have a look at Xvzzy text

http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/XyzzyText

It has some nice extra features and is very easy to set up.

I'm making my own XyText. If you want. I could give you a copy when I'm done I can give you a copy if you would like. I may OS it.

As far as I am aware, XYText and XYZZYText both come with extra scripts that set up a prim to be of the proper shape for you to use. 3 or 5 faces with either 1 or 2 letters per face.

Thank you for the offer but the wiki one was enough after i figured out what was wrong.

This was indeed the problem i had missed the prim setup and it wasnt displaying properly currently using the prism 5 face with the script and it works a treat :D.

A word of Caution, but at this stage I have no hard facts to back this up.
over the weekend I updated one of my display devices, XyText 10 Chr based, to MONO by recompiling all the scripts. It has no Listeners, timers or scanners, but yesterday the estate manager asked me to remove it as it was coursing sim lag. And it was not just any estate manager, but one who knows his stuff. I replaced it with the old one and all was rosy again. I will look into this if I get time, and the manager can help, but if any scripters here have access to the estate tools, any chance you could compare execution of xytext in mono/lsl? With the number of devices that use xytext and its descendants we could have Grid meltdown if everyone recompiles.
