Hi,

Any recommendations of good sites which offer sound effects / loops etc, where you could search on keywords then download?

What's the most widely used free audio tool people use too? i.e. ability to take a WAV or MP3, take a slice of it, then save to WAV?

Cheers

This looks pretty good.

I dont think this is the correct section.. but wouldn't know which would be a better one.

For sound effects, I've always used sound dogs

For cutting up sound you can use mp3 direct cut for MP3s only.. but it is very good and easy to use. as for using something for wav, no idea.

sound editing: audacity and amadeus. Audacity is free, and multiplatform. Amadeus might be Mac only and was shareware, but it does some things better than Audacity.

great - I'll try these links & s/w out (wasn't sure which other forum to post this question on....perhaps scripters with their systems and use of sound loops are the major users of sounds in SL anyway?)

This is a fantastic question!

For sample rate conversion to the proper 44.1 kHz, 16-bit stereo that SL needs, I recommend r8brain. Pure quality and a free version too! For many musical looks, you will want to check out SampleNet.co.uk. Findsounds.com is good for digging around in general. Googling for "free loops" brings up a whole lotta schtuff, and I used to look around in the KVR Audio forums for lots and lots of "sample lists". :)

As well as some of the ones above, I use Freesound, which isn't amazingly complete but has some very interesting sample packs, lots of artificial ones as well as random recorded noises. Findsounds can be very useful. This guy has a collection of sound effects for making zero-budget films, some of which I've used.

I have a few other ones that I've saved with weapon sound effects too, but they're on my bookmarks at home.
