A Script Request

Is It at all Possible to have an script the rezes parts of a house that are linked separately ie. Part 1,2,3 etc. So that people do not have to position the house just click on the box and the house parts rez into place? I would like to package my houses in something like this.

Surely if you take the multiple parts into inventory at the same time, then put those contents into a box, the customer can rez the whole thing in one piece in place anyway? And therefore forego the need for any scripts at all.

What Kris said... plus:

I believe you have to be in edit mode when you remove a house from a box that was stored (not linked) as 1 object in a container. Otherwise I think you wont have all the pieces selected when it rezes, making moving it a little bit of a pain since you'd have to reselect each section.

I made one of those to build a gaming hall from bits in one shot. However, since I built it for myself, it will probably need some mods to make it useful for you.

If you feel comfortable scripting I can just explain a couple of things and let you have a copy.

IM me in-world and I'll give you a demo.

If you are still considering this, as I know customers love to try to move their multiple linked object houses after dropping them, and then come bug you when they foul it up, consider this.

For example, they drop your magic box where they want the center of the house to be, say the command and it comes out one piece at a time (very doable). Oh no! It isnt where they want it though! So now we need to reverse the situation eh? put the house back they say! let me re-arrange the box & try again! Ack, problems for sure. While you can rez a section of a house out of a box fairly easily, you cannot unrez back into that same box. You'd have to leave copies of your house section in the house so it could be rez'd again, but then guess what, you sell one house and they get as many as they want :)

Kris's explanation is still your best bet. It sux I know but we home builders have to put up with a little "sure I'll come help you set it up on your land cuz you never bothered to figure out how to learn to drag a selection box around the whole house, or figured out how to use the rotation tools".

I have no problem with letting them copy what belongs to them, I'm not making money here Just like helping out new comers Give or sell at cost small plots and have a house in a box for them . I just thought since most of my houses are simple It would make it EZ for newbies just to drop them and poof =) oh well I guess I'll just pick them up all as one and put instructions on how to use them. May be it's better for them to play with the houses that way they can learn to do it by doing, Just like i did.

Contact Rickard Roentgen if you want to see this idea taken to a glorius conclusion. He has a system where the rezzing object can pack or unpack the building with a simple dialog-driven interface... Plus, even after the building is rezed, if you move the rezzing object, the building moves and rotates to match the new position/orientation of the rezzing structure.

Very elegent.
