Well, I'm new at this too but it seems to me you need to find a source for animated flame textures of the alpha variety for the transparency quality. I've been looking for such things for acouple of weeks without success.

Can anyone help us?

Can't help with the texturing, but I do have a recommendation if you're planning on adding some sound effects. Avoid using llLoopSound on a 10 second clip. Instead use llPlaySound so it gets louder as you approach and fades as you move away.

...more seriously,

There are lots of options...moving fires, particle fires, 3D 'alpha fighting' fires...some of the better commercial ones use combinations of all of these and include smoke, glowing coals, sparks, etc.

I think there are some FIRE textures in the Library...start there.
I learned to build and script by taking apart other people's work. Go to a freebie place (search on YADNI or GNUBIE STORE), and pick up a bunch of free fires. Take them apart to see how it was done.

Go to the Particle Lab (search on it in places) for some ideas on particle fires.
There are a couple of groups which have scripting classes--see if they are having a fire class soon. (search on events)

I got it. I went to Ynadi's Junkyard and looked through the free boxes of home decorations. Found a box with a couple fireplaces in it. I unlinked the fireplace, took the animated flames, the logs and the log holder. Plus one of the fireplaces came with fireplace tools!. Thank you all for trying to help. Gotta love those freebie places! LOL

I was having the same problem. Can't find fire anywhere! I finally tried to take apart another fireplace and noticed that the flames were Linden Flames. However, there're no flame textures in my library!

Anyone know when these disappeared, or if the flames are available somewhere as a texture?

You should be able to copy the textures from the flat flame prims.

When I need a fast fire flame, I just grab one of the freebie candles that the Lindens give you and delete the candle part and rescale the flame parts. Works well for me :)

Just a plug for particle fires over prim fires: they save prims, can move upwards naturally as they fade, and seem to have less trouble with alpha-sorting (though I have no idea why). Works best with good textures, but plausible active embers can be had with the default particle texture and size-tweaking.

Watch out for ( i.e. BEWARE! ) those fires/candles/lamps that listen for commands on the chat channel (0)
The price for the convenience of just typing 'on', 'light', or 'off', is that the thing is processing everyone's normal chat and searching for commands therein. Sim Lag R'Us!!!

I came across a freebie fire that had two overlapped prims with animated flame textures. Both of them were listening for commands on the chat channel.
The script was commented 'Candle Script'.

If you need to turn it on and off, a touch script is way better.
