Banning a script (a HUD)

Is there any way to ban the use of a particular HUD? I've seen some detection of MystiTool which prompts the resident to put it into sleep mode in order to reduce lag, but there are others I know of which cause a lot more.

It is going to be very dependent upon the actual scipt/object. If you know a particular chat channel and/or command that the script(s) use, you could try listening for that. If you know it rezzes an object with a particular distinctive name, you could try scanning for such an object. What to do when it is sensed is another consideration. You can't turn the script(s) off or return the objects, for example, but you could possibly warn, eject, and/or ban the owner.

Mysti Tool comes with something called "a sleeper". the sleeper basically broadcasts a "please go to sleep" notice that mystitool's are listening for. When they hear the notice, the script offers to go into sleep mode. When the script detects that you've teleported, or no longer hears that announcement, it will switch back on to normal mode.

There is no way to DETECT which objects/scripts are being worn, via a script. Period.

If you knew something about the scripts/huds you want to ban.. perhaps you could listen for tell-tale chatter from them (if they make chat). if you're a really phenominal programmer, you could make a bot, that logs in an alt and sits on your land, and watches the "top scripts" list... and watches for a particular keyword, and then ejects the person using it.

Of course, if it's a homemade script, it could easily be renamed, the chatter could be changed, and you'd be playing catch-up again.

Bottom line.. stop trying to tell people what they can or can not wear. If your application REQUIRES that people not be able to use a hud to perhaps "cheat" your rules.. then you need to realize that your rules are going to get broken by people willing to cheat.

Using a llDialog to warn people using huds you don't like, is reasonable.. heck if you own the land, you can even use llTeleportAgentHome if you REALLY hate the huds.. but seriously.. you could just let people do what they're going to do, and stop stressing about it.

Perhaps as a followup to Winter, it might be useful to know what the HUD is, and what the reason is for it to be banned. We might be able to think of work-arounds with more info.
