Marquee

I'm interested in creating a script that displays a string (gotten from an XML-RPC call, incidentally) on a wall/structure/object. (Think the news ticker marquee on Times Square, NY)

I am unfortunately very new at scripting, so if there's a resource somewhere I can check to figure this out instead of asking here, please direct me there!
