I finally got a new vid card, and went to the Particle Laboratory. WOW! Way cool! FAR more info than I could assimilate in a single trip, and in fact it will probably take many trips for me to acquire even a rudimentary knowledge of making my own particle scripts. But, I shall endeavor to persevere.

While I was there, of course, I did the traditional rape and pillage of the freebies, but in this case the freebies are relatively few, but all useful both as tools and tutorials. ("Let's see what happens when I change this..."
Well, now that I think of it, for free scripts, it is a huge amount, for all being in one place, and all being useful... And no, I don't typically behave like a newbie freebie-hound. But, when I am looking to learn about particles, and someone offers a bunch of quality particle templates like this, well, once again, it's "Yee-haaaa! Freebies!" One of the coolest things Jopsy does regarding the script templates is to do them in a modular fashion. Drop THIS particle template in a prim, and then drop in THAT controller template, and they work together. So, if you get the particles to look the way you want, but then decide, for example, you'd rather click the prim to turn the particles on or off, instead of using chat, you just switch the controller template. Or, the other way around. Click it on and off while getting it to look the way you want, then drop in the chat controller template for actual use. There are actually many options for the method of triggering the particles. And absolutely no need for a scripting plodder like me to try to figure out where he went wrong while attempting to change the trigger.

So, since this is the scripting tips forum, here is my tip of the day: If you want to learn about particles, go to the Particle Laboratory. I will certainly be returning frequently over the next couple of weeks, now that I don't have to worry about accidentally shoving some innocent bystander off the platform.

Thanks, Jopsy!
