You know how when you make a script selection, you get that little swirl of sparklies around the prim, as if something "magical" just happened? Is there any way to turn that off? It's kind of silly at times.

An object attached to the HUD doesn't sparkle.

right, the sparkles occur any time a non-hud object says something.
Note that if it's talking to the owner (llOwnerSay()), only the owner sees the sparkles. Idon't remember whether we get sparkles for llInstantMessage().
No way to turn them off, unfortunately, at least, not from the script. There might be a client side option to disable this feature completely on your client.

Thanks. I never noticed that it only happens when I'm testing something and making it tell me its status. lol, maybe because I never actually finish anything. I work on it til I solve any problems, then move onto something else.

I do not remember the sparkles appearing with llInstantMessage(). If you'd like to stop them when you add a new script, you could always try making a blank script or default script of some sort in your inventory, and drag it into the object when you need it. default { state_entry() { } }
or whatever you want.
