Getting eMails from outside

I'm trying to send via PHP-script to an object, using its key as the address (key@lsl.secondlife.com);

When I try to fetch the mail inworld, using llGetNextEmail(), nothing happens...

When I send an inworld eMail to this object, using llEmail(), I get a response immediately...

Are eMail-to-object communications not allowed from outside, or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks for you help, pholks...

Outside-to-grid emails are hopelessly broken and will not be getting better. I would abandon that strategy entirely if I were you, I'm afraid to say - polling via llHTTPRequest will have much more success.

haruki -- how long an email are you sending? e.g. Anything over 4k total will be silently dropped (remember the length of headers is included).

Thanks for the reply, Escort

The email is extremely short from about 10 to 30 Characters...

This can't be the issue...

Thanks for the hint, though

It can take up to several hours for emails to arrive from external sources. Which renders this type of communication rather useless for pretty much any purpose.

Objects supposedly blacklisted and removed from world are still emailling me after the fact.

thinking about cancelling my membership and finding somewhere else to go.

You could try changing the e-mail account registered with LL (https://secure-web4.secondlife.com/account/contact.php) and setting up a (SPAM) filter on the old account to drop all e-mail from the secondlife.com or lindenlab.com domains. That should pretty much take care of those nasty objects, I'd think.

It's a different matter if they are IMing you rather than sending actual e-mail to your literal address. In that case you could try muting them. If that doesn't work, you might want to file abuse reports about those (I'd file them on the Governor Linden account if they are/were owned by you, or if you can't determine the owner for some reason--even though it is now included in offline IM e-mails). Meanwhile, turning off the option to receive offline IMs as e-mails (https://secure-web4.secondlife.com/account/contact.php) might temporarily alleviate the problem.

If that was the case then you would not receive messages from them.
Though SL should tell you the owner of said objects and, mayhaps, also the location. So you can go there and take care of the problem.
