On an area of my land I have some floating script that says
"click here for your free gifts!"
It moves around as you pass by it. however I cannot link it to any object that is in this area.
Is it possible for floating text to get trapped somehow.
I have tried many things to find the cause of it but it is simply just floating there and as I move around it seems to move too. However it does seem to have an area it covers.
Any ideas please??
Thanks Coda

It's got to be attached to a prim. There's no way to have a floating text message that isn't on a prim. Try "View Transparent"?

The prim might be underground, dropped and abandoned by whoever made it. If it doesn't show up when you do Crtl-Alt-T (View Transparent), try peeking underground with your camera. You might actually be able to find it simply by opening your Edit window (Ctrl-3) and dragging a rectangle around the suspect area to highlight any prims. Just be sure you turn off the "Highlight Only My Objects" option in theTools menu first.

could also be a nano prim, which uses minimum size coupled with various cuts to make a prim smaller. some are small enough not to render unless it's litterally an centiimeter from your eye. rolliq's suggestion should work for this possibility too.

I once had this happen.. after days of searching, we eventually managed, with the help of a Linden concierge, to track the source of the mysterious "Sit Here" that had been floating round in mid air to a pose ball script that had somehow managed to find its way into the inventory of the megaprim that forms the floor of my building platform.

Actually, the message itself is a clue. It sounds very much like some past visitor opened a gift box, took the freebies, and left the box (with its floating text) behind. It happens all the time. If you don't have your land set to "no build" or have autoreturn set, you end up collecting trash periodically. In your case, it's possible that you or someone else did some terraforming before taking out the trash, so the box got buried. If my guess is right, the method I suggested earlier should do the trick -- and you have learned some good landowner tips.

The one thing that bothers me slightly about the idea it's coming from a box that's buried under the ground, which I agree makes a lot of sense, is the OP's reference to the text following you around.
That's exactly the way the text behaved in when the script was in my megaprim.. it followed me around the platform like a lost puppy rather than staying put, as well-behaved hover text is supposed to.
I've not tried it, but I just wonder if hover text coming from a buried box wouldn't stay still and vanish when you move more than a few metres away, as it would do were the box not buried. That's what makes me suspect the text may be coming from a script that's somehow found its way into the inventory of a far larger prim in the area.

You can also look at the list of who owns objects in our About Land window, and return those that belong to anyone you think might have left this behind.
