Physical prims linked to non-physical?

I want to have physical and non-prims linked together, say physical moths fluttering around a candle. So I call llSetStatus(STATUS_PHYSICS, TRUE) in the moths and llSetStatus(STATUS_PHYSICS, FALSE); in the candle. But then when I call llSetForce(invec*attract,FALSE) to start giving a moth some behavior, the candle takes off with it as if they were attached by a fixed invisible rod.
Is it possible to have physical and non-physical prims linked together? To have individual prims in a linked object each have their own separate physics?

To the best of my knowledge, no you can't. I had a similar problem a while ago with Flags attached to a boat, as soon as I made the flags flexy, the crew fell through the deck :), the whole thing became non physical.
People on the building tips forum may have some work around, try asking there.

Can't be done. It's kind of a contradiction anyway.. it doesn't really make sense. Any such workaround would be patched within a server version or two anyhow.

they would need to be seperate. but is there a way you can script the moth to fly as a physical form but only around the candle? as in have the candle and the moth speaking to eachother

some other ways might be a simple rotation script, or my prefered method would be to use puppeteer. that way they can be linked as well

good luck

So your final Nimbus Score is 8.15, a quite remarkable achievement for a biped. Congratulations Crunch, you should be very proud. :-)

I can get the motion I want if each moth is a separate physical prim. However, if I'm carrying the candle, I cannot rez moth prims in most areas, only at home or in sandboxes. I can llSetPos a non-physical moth but then I have to do my own physics and the motion is jerkey. I suppose I'll put up with that and call it a feature: RL moth motion is kind of fluttery-jerkey.

What is puppeteer?
