I have an script which so far simply checks for new emails (llGetNextEmail) every 30 seconds. When I send it an email from another object in SL it works just fine, it recieves the email. However when I send it an email from outside email sources the object never recieves it. I've tried yahoo and gmail so far, no luck. What am I missing here? Any help much appreiated, thanks!

Could be a lot of things.

1) How long did you wait before you decided "it doesn't work?". Outside->object emails have been known to take hours to be received.
2) Are you using the right email address for the object? [primkey]@lsl.secondlife.com is the proper one, and it has to be the prim key of the prim the script is in, NOT the object key if it is in a child prim.

Outside email to SL simply does not work these days - I would forget about it as a mechanism completely.

Yeah I'm 100% sure I was using the right addresses.

So Outside -> SL just doesn't work? That stinks lol.

Ok. Well this script completly revolves around it working 100% of the time and not taking hours to work, so I guess its not gonna cut it lol. Thank you everyone for the answers.

SL ups and downs. A few months ago we were instructed to switch over to mail because it was much more reliable then xml-rpc. Now the roles are reversed and xml-rpc is actually the more reliable according to the latest data. Who knows, it might even change again in the next few months until Kelly has this project up and running:

Anyone think that there will ever be a way to IM object -> object? Lol. It would make a scripter's life so much easier.

Yeah.. hehe... sending an In world email to another object doesn't use the SAME mechanism as an out of world EMAIL.
The in world email IS basically an in world IM betwen objects :))
If you want a relliable out of world -> in world communication then you should use llHttpRequest().
That works almost 100% reliable.
There was somewhere an article about this but don't remember where.
