How fast do we walk?

I thought I'd seen a discussion of this once, in the context of the problems of trying to script something that moves at "walking pace" (which I'm thinking of trying) but I can't locate it. Can anyone assist me with the answer or direct me to the thread?

There's a display in the Advanced menu somewhere that'll bring up a little speedometer (I think they called it something to do with 'velocity' though it prints no information about direction, so it's really just speed). You could also have an attachment spit out the results of 'llVecMag(llGetVel())' as you walk, run, and fly around. You might want to be sure to remove any flight assist devices or other movement-related gear while you test.

Yep, it's under the HUD info menu.

One weird quirk is that our avatars walk a little over twice as fast as a RL person would. I'm guessing that's part of why we have that crazy sped-up default walk.

we probably have to walk twice as fast to keep up with our twice as tall avatars lol

LOL. Probably. Also, we'd probably get impatient if it took as long to walk places as it does in RL. EVERYONE would be running or flying. Might as well make walking somewhat worth it, somehow. Just think of it as a good strong power walk. You might be able to achieve those kinds of speeds in RL (at least from what I recall the rough values are) if you really pushed it, though it would be difficult to maintain for very long.

Thanks. Walking pace seems to hover around a pretty constant 3.2 metres a second on the flat (give or take a third decimal place or two) no matter how tall I am, which is 7.156 mph or about 2 to 3 times normal walking pace ("normal" depending on factors like height, gender, state of health and what website you look at).

The correct values for walking and running in m/s according to tests I made before to create my vertical sim code;

float velWalk = 3.200;
float velRun = 5.125;

Acceleration also seems to be at around 12.8 m/s, Deceleration at half of that I think.
