Can someone teach me how to make a basic script that pushes you vertically when you collide with it. In other words, a ladder script that can be attached to a one prim object.

thanks

You don't need a script to make a ladder. Just create an invisible box in front of the ladder, taper the top to 0 thickness. In effect you have a very steep ramp that you can slowly walk up. The animation isn't perfect, but you have a climbable ladder with no scripting involved.

if you were willing to use more prims you could use a pose ball, and change it's location accordingly. With an animation. But it would only work for one avatar at a time. it migth be posible to push. But it wouldn't look 'real'.

A ladder was one of the very first things I made in SL. I made it to get to the roof of my dock. Mine was on a slight slant and all you had to do was walk into it and you would go up it. Staying on it was a challenge to the novice, but invisible rails would solve that problem.
