i am trying to make something that will tell me who has been in my place and even relay what they are chating about. i have no idea where to start or even if this is something that a person of my VERY limited scripting abilitiy could do. i know that i would need to use a sensor and i think i know how to do that easy enough but a chat relay i have no idea. also i have no idea how i would get it ent to my VIA im or even store it for later reterval. any help would be great thanks

even relay what they are chating about If you do not tell the people in the house that you are monitoring chat before you monitor their chat, it is a TOS violation and you can be at the whims of LL review. You could be perm banned. You must inform them that chat is being monitored. _____________________

As Strife said a chat relay / chat recorder is illegal, however a simple visitor logger is quite straight forward and could at least tell you who visited, when and how long they stayed.
As you correctly said, it will need some form of sensor, either a periodic repeating sensor llSensorRepeat or by using llVolumeDetect |

Depends if you enjoy scripting and would enjoy the challenge. Its not exactly a difficult script to write. |

Situation:
On my property in SL, I have object which transfers all chat to my RL-QTEK S100 mobile and there i see it without recording it to disk just displaying on my mobile... Do I violate TOS? Thanks for any feedback. BTW...Any recommendation where to buy surveillance textures ? |

I would assume that since the data is being emailed (?) then it is being logged, possibly multiple times, on its way to your phone. |

no no email ....just simple http POST so NO logging done on servers as data are in http payload. Its using tcp/ip hearbeat technique just used to interconnect channels from SL to RL. Anyhow to be on safe side I will add some sticker on entrance

Community standards, Disclose: You might want to ask this in the Linden Answers forum specifically, since my interpretation of giving consent is that it has to be a conscious action (like those chat loggers you have to explicitly click on), and not merely implied by a "You are being monitored" texture hidden away somewhere. From asking questions about this with the Lindens, it has been suggested that as long as any potentially-logged speaker is made fully aware that he/she is being monitored, then it is OK, because they have the option to speak or leave. This assumes stationary monitoring devices on your own land with sufficient notification mechanisms (ie, no tiny/hidden signs, fine print, whispers, etc). For example, we log staff meetings, and use both chat messages and visible in-world text to let people know that chat is being logged in the vicinity of the meeting. Basically, implied consent is possible, with valid notification mechanisms. However, it is still a sticky area of concern, and any specific uses of monitoring scripts probably need to be blessed by the LL abuse department before use. |

There is a freely distributed avatar list maker available in many places in SL, including in the free box of "Useful Free Stuff" available at my store. See the landmark in my signature.
