I'm not sure where I should really put this question, so I thought I'd stick it here for now. I am wondering what a good web host might be for hosting a MySQL database for SL use. Currently, I use GoDaddy, but I've heard that not only are their MySQL databases not reliably backed up, but that their response times are not exactly top notch when it comes to server queries either. I've used them for years and never once had problems, but I'd like to get different opinions before I launch a scripting venture (similar to Subscribe-o-Matcis) that will require reliable hosting. So far I've looked at a couple of other places and read reviews and whatnot -- bluehost.com, fatcow.com and justhost.com to name a few; I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions/feedback/etc for these three (and/or GoDaddy) that would be useful on determining which host to use for this project. Thanks! - R

Up until recently I was using Gigenet ( http://www.gigenet.com/), they are a major hosting company that actually sub-leases to many other hosting companies. They were quite reliable, and all my support queries were handled promptly and professionally. Having said that, I would give you the suggestion to look into the new era of hosting, services like Google, Amazon, and Microsoft are providing. The free quotas make them very attractive for when you're in the development stage, and at the same time you're getting the bullet proof reliability these services provide (it actually made headline news last time Google was down, thats how rare it is). What they do lack is customer service, you're pretty much on your own. But I can say all my future projects will be running on one of these services. They are certainly worth looking into: http://code.google.com/appenginehttp://aws.amazon.comhttp://www.microsoft.com/azure

I use a couple of different hosts, one of which is GoDaddy. I've never had a problem with response times with them, customer service has always been right there, and the only time I've ever had script communication problems to their server was when the SL sim IP address had gotten itself blacklisted somehow.

I've been with these guys: http://hostroute.comfor 10 years and I can vouch for them. Never had any problems with MySQL databases and I'm running a forum, blog, moodle and wiki on 4 separate ones.
