is there away to select all prims created by myself so I can alter the permissions so everyone in my group can alter them???

Tools -> Select Only My Objects combined with a rectangular select while the edit window is open can do that, except that it also includes any group-owned objects that you can modify, for some stupid reason. So the answer is, "it depends a little on the ownership of the objects around them."
