How do I make a particle system look like the EXPLODE pattern but have the trail effect of a DROP pattern?

Turn off the particle system follow bit? I think.

With the EXPLODE pattern on turning follow off would make the particles disappear. With the DROP pattern on turning the follow off would have no effect. I tried both the follow source and follow velocity bits.
Any other ideas?

What exactly do you mean by the "trail effect" of a drop pattern?

From: Rodrick Harrington What exactly do you mean by the "trail effect" of a drop pattern? When the particle system is moved around the particles trail off rather than following the source (Looks a bit more realistic that way). Like I said, I already tried the follow bit option on the explode pattern with no luck. LW: Multiple particle systems? Well, if I have one explode pattern and one drop pattern I am still dealing with the explode pattern not trailing off and the drop pattern not looking like the explode pattern. It's pretty obvious looking in other words and looks tacky. Unless I am not understanding this clearly?
