This is indeed a scripting question as in..... which one of these should I use to script my swords for combat?
I hear two different stories.... 1) DCS2 is used on more sims and 2) Spell Fire is the most popular
I want my swords able to be used on combat sims and not just good looking decor. Any suggestions or feedback is MOST appreciated.
Thank you.

I agree...use both.
DCS2 senses your "swings" while in mouse look. Spell Fire weapons work like a gun in that they shoot an invisible damage bullet when swinging. The Spell Fire weapon should work in DCS2 as long as you stay in mouselook.
Testing will be needed to be sure.

I'm pesently using the lck2.0 opensource script... does that do damage to DCS2 and CCS?
I hear that lck2.0 is banned on some sims because it's laggy so what would be a better alternative?

For the record, any melee weapon that fires a "bullet" to do damage will be unusable (banned) in most DCS2 sims because it would effectively be doing double damage. So if you are going this route be sure the user can configure the weapon for either DCS2 or Spellfire and make it clear which mode it's in to avoid other players complaining that your users are "cheating" with it.

Thank you Talon.... this is the debate I am having. One person tells me that SF is the most popular. Another tells me SF is slow and that DCS2 is better. I'm just trying to get a handle on what I should use to make my swords more widely accepted. I tried contacting the maker of DCS2 several times to o avail

check the groups of the DCS folks... I believe one is devoted to devolpers
to be honest I'd never heard of SF, though i've been away some months, and I'm not big on combat simulation

DCS doesn't require any special scripting. A weapon that does nothing except trigger animations on Left Click + Movement Key (Mouselook or Not) will work, as the DCS Unit itself fires the damage commands in response to those control sets.
SpellFire I know nothing about, so I cannot help.
Basically, a mode that turns off all the SpellFire stuff but keeps triggering animations will do fine for switching to DCS compatibility.

Hate to necropost to this thread, especially since I'm not even the OP, but given that the makers of DCS2 are now actively doing nearly everything they can to hobble third-party weapon designers I'd suggest supporting anything but DCS2 as they've finally made it absolutely clear that their intention is the promotion and sale of their own weapons at the expense of everyone else trying to support DCS2. Granted this has always been the case with their enhanced/special damage functions which only they could use but the new logo they are forcing third-party designers to use which basically says "this weapon is going to suck no matter what you do, go buy one from us instead" really takes the cake. (I don't even make weapons and I still find this offputting enough to post here.)
