I would like to change the permissions of all the files inisde an object. is there a method to do this via a script. I have alot of ojects i would like to do this to, it would be perfect for me to be albe to drop a script inside the object an let it do the work.

To the best of my knowledge, permissions (like copy/mod, which I assume is what you mean?) can only be altered by right-clicking an item in inventory, and selecting "Properties". It basically has to be done one-by-one, which is annoying.

You can certainly edit them in bulk with the Cool Viewer, which has a very handy extra option on the tools menu for setting bulk permissions on the contents of a object's inventory by inventory type http://sldev.free.fr/ I have an idea that this feature is also included in the Release Candidate, too, but I am not sure.

YES! You can "group select" invetory items, and you will get a "tabbed" properties window. You can close tabs by hitting CTRL-W. This makes it much easier to go through a long list of items.. click-click-close. It's not quite as awesome as setting them all with one click, but even with 40 items, it's pretty fast.
To speed the "reload" up.. once you have your tabbed properties window open, CLOSE THE EDIT PANEL. Every time you update the permissions on a single inventory item, the object holding that inventory will reload it's inventory. This can cause a painful lag between tabs. Close the edit window, and it'll pop-pop-pop.
