I can do it using a url, but how do I play a movie from my hard drive?

use file://path

Use file:// and the path, like:
file://c:/movies/mymovie.mov
Others wont be able to see the movie if you do it this way. Only you will see it play.
To play a movie from your drive and let others see it, you would need to broadcast the movie using software like DARWIN Streaming Server.
