I have numerous small programs I have written for simplifying life in the general computer world and some of the would be very helpful in SL (e.g. text to speech) I have searched the LSL notes and forums and have found no method or work around for invoking windows OS calls or to other programs or scripts - Can this be done?
At this point I can't even auto paste text into the chat box from the outside from a voice recognition program that I have. Any clues?

Calls to SL from Outside

Norman, thanks for the tip. I went to libsecondlife but couln't find very much - ended up in a lot of deadends. My specific interest is to be able to simply capture incoming chat text and send it to a text to speech synthesizer (which is outside SL) then I have a simple VB program for doing command and control by speech recognition - The program is working, but I would like to be able to send the resultant text directly into SL so I can speak commands or phrases into the chat program from outside. Is there a specific place to go in Libsecondlife to find a way to do this?

You can use SLProxy as the base for your app, you set up delegates to catch chat & IM text and send it to your text-speech convertor. It's work to do, not already done, but since you said you are a programmer, I figured you should be able to handle it

Can you set up a web server or something? Use HTTP or XML-RPC to communicate chats to your PHP (or other) script, and that script can do whatever it needs to on your local machine (or forward data to your local machine if you can't run a web server there directly). Note that if you use XML-RPC it looks like you might have to set up the channel manually or via 'llEmail()' or something, and then poll your script from the web server. See:

join our IRC channel on EFnet, #libsl Also the mailing list, https://gna.org/mail/?group=libsecondlifeA simple chat capture application will be very easy to do. Most of the work has already been done.
