I want to eventually make a vehile that uses X45 joystick and throttle and possibly some of the buttons. Is there a way to use them instead of mouse look ?

Short answer: No

Long answer: Yes, but its not worth the effort for what your thinking. You can map joystick axis to mouse imput, but its not what your after, and wouldnt let you do teh buttons and throttle.

I've tried it out on my SL avatar and on World of Warcraft and Guild Wars. You can also map the POV switches on the joystick.
