Just received this on the secondlifescripters list. Thank you so much for pointing it out there ELQ!: From: someone Ok, does anyone else find it strange that Linden Labs pushes and pushes for us to adopt http-in when they don't even bother to use it themselves? http://status.secondlifegrid.net/Just makes me wonder is all..I mean, they use that stupid port for http-in that none of the big-name hosting providers will allow, which automatically lowers the possibility of using http-in on any scale, and they don't even use it on their own ecommerce site. Is there something inherently wrong with http-in? Should I go back to using XMLRPC since they obviously aren't going to deprecate technology they are using themselves? I'm just confused and wondered if anybody had some clarification on it. In case some do not know what he is referring to, there was an XStreet outage today because Linden Labs in it's infinite wisdom is using xmlrpc there. Between that, the stooooopid SQL keywords filter both here and in the jira, our pitiful forums and the bastardization of XStreet and the KB, they really need to get off their butt and hire a real web master.

Hehe, isn't it really a hold over from when they bought xstreet? Since xstreet was out before http protocals were even available in LSL. Of course if they changed it, then people would complain about how they are wasting their time, and how long the bugs in the magic boxes are taking to get fixed

LOL thanks Jesse. As far as it being a holdover, yes it is..however if I could figure out what the hell was wrong with it in the first place, and workaround that port issue and changeover my own stuff why can't they? They've certainly been working on it longer than I. I had a couple very small unrelated bugs in my own ecommerce site when I did my preview launch a little bit ago, but the http-in worked great.
This time, announcing to the list that XStreet isn't using http-in, is the first and only time I've personally seen any Linden actually acknowledge that the port issue exists. There was absolutely nothing to imply they would actually fix it though.

my bet is that they didn't want to field complaints on a changeover... requiring all new notice boxes
