Hi there, Just got into SL and been playing around. I have some odd desire to create gameing machines in SL and I was looking for SL examples and open source works that I could pour through. I have good programming experience (from c++ to all the scripting languages) so the code structure is not difficult to handle but what I don't understand is manipulating the prims and the linden function libraries, so taking a look at how others do it may be a good bet for me.
That being said I checked out the scripting 101 stuff and looking to get a bit more indepth but honestly I have no clue of where to look for open source or example practicle application scripts for SL... Any push's in the right direction?

Not being a scripter I'm not entirely sure what you're after.. But the Scripting Library is there.. And Yadni's Junkyard has a box of free (mostly open source) scripts in world..

Here's a lateral question: the Ivory Tower of Primitives in Natoma is often referred to when helping those seeking to build. What would be the scripting equivalents inworld, if any?

What would be the scripting equivalents inworld, if any? I've never been able to come up with one, something I've been asked more than once on greeting missions..

From: Torley Torgeson Here's a lateral question: the Ivory Tower of Primitives in Natoma is often referred to when helping those seeking to build. What would be the scripting equivalents inworld, if any? Scripting is done by text, so imho it isn't suprising that there are very little good resources inworld, because sl just doesn't support text very wel. Offcourse the scripts are there, but quickle browsing through and linking back and forward isn't there. Which makes it hard to quickly learn. That's why i think we should just be refering people to the wiki, because the web is text. And does it excellent. Luckely this discussion will be obsolute at 1.7.0+ because the wiki will be inworld in a way, via the html plugin.

The University of Second Life scripts are a good learning resource.
I have a large collection of scripts from various sources that have a lot of useful code in them.

As it statnds, I agree that the junkyard is a good place to start. Also, look at the wiki. That's what I will do when I move into the scripting phase. Right now, I'm content to wait, lurk the script forums, and study existing code. I view code like cooking. Giving time to simmer on a slow burner yields good results on your marinara.
