Melee script Not working

Hello,
So I've made a nice sword and dropped in a free melee script. Everything seems to work fine except that I can't hit anyone. DCS meters just don't register any hits. For a while it seemed to work occasionally. But now I can swing all day and hit nothing.

The blade is the root prim and that's where I put the script. As far as I can see this should be working fine. But it isn't. Anyone had this issue? Am i just missing something obvious?

attachments are inherently phantom so won't generate collisions - i assume the script is using some other method to detect hits --- to say more you'd have to be more specific about how the script works...
