Hi, I was wondering if there was a way to use particles as a light source.
I have been using glow particles but they look like light, but they dont dont emit light.
For example.
I'm using a explode Particle with Glow setting and if possible i would like each particle to act as a light source making the room brighter at night.

Could you let me know if this is even possible to use the particles to emit light or if i would need to use the Prim to emit the light?

Thank you.

Glow is the only thing I can think of to come close to this, but it is simply the same thing as setting a prim texture to full bright.

The problem with particles is they are only rendered client-side. They are not like objects in the world and even seeing them at all is dependant on the client's settings for each person. (some people keep these turned off due to lag that can be caused by them)

So there really isn't a way to make them emit light...you could have some kind of invisible prim that lights up at night with the particles glowing, but that's as close as you can get.

And, likewise, you're limited to around 6 functioning light sources at a time. (typically only those nearest the viewer's 'eye').

And Tiarnalalon is definitely right... 'light' must come from a prim. :)

Setting Prim Paramters at Sun Location

If your light is only activated at a set time i.e. Dusk to Dawn.. you can set Prim Paramters to emit light at that same time as you start your particles to give more of the illusion of lighting.

Also the prim will show as a light to all with reflections etc.
