Money Transfers...

Forgive me if these questions have already been answered, but when I tried to do a forum search, it always returned a "page cannot be displayed" error.

I am familiar with the "money" event and am able to script my own vendors without any problem...the challenge comes when I want to install a "vendor" of sorts on an attachment.

Since attachments cannot exactly be "selected" while on an avatar (selecting them actually brings up the avatar's radial menu, not the attachments), the "money" event becomes a non-solution--at least in the idea of reaching it through a "Pay" selection on the radial menu.

An attachment CAN, however, be "touched" while attached to another avatar. So the challenge is to initiate an option to pay through a touch_start event. Such a system should not be hard...and yet...I am unable to find any LSL functions that allow someone to pay an object without going through the "money" event and have not yet figured out a way to make the "touch_start" event direct immediately to the "money" event.

Additionally...what if I want an item to--upon attaching--request the ability to track payments made to the avatar wearing the item? When the avatar accepts, it simply records the time, amount, and from whom payment was made to them. Such implementation doesn't seem hard...and would appear to be very beneficial to many, many, many people who are trying to run businesses in SL...

...anyone have work-arounds here? Anyone have shots in the dark? Are there functions I'm missing? I mean...these functions seem like real basics and I had to blink a few times before I accepted they might not actually exist...

You could request debit permission from the avatar touching the attachment, but no one in their right mind would say yes to a thing like that, because anything that has debit permission can clean you out.

Other than that, no, there's no way to have an attachment directly receive money. You'd have to rez it on the ground or something.

From the LSL WIKI:

From: someone
Requests for the PERMISSION_DEBIT and PERMISSION_CHANGE_LINKS constants can only go to the object's owner.

Thanks for the attempt though. Guess I'll have to give up on the project.

It just seemed like something so basic....and so necessary...

why not make the vender a follower?

Or perhaps you could have your attachment rez a temporary vendor object when touched. This would help avoid a couple things... having to re-rez your follower everytime you teleport, and it would not be auto-returned (or for that matter, count against prim counts.)
