Hi! Im going to start building vehicles but I dont what I need to know.. I just read that it has to be less than 30prims each vehicle.. something else?

Then.. the vehicle need to has a "open-part" so the character can enter and sit.. right?

last.. any tutorial about vehicles?

For my records.. =)

have the seat be the last prim you select when you link it (so it is the root prim) (best idea)

knowing how to script helps too :D

objects that have physics enabled can be no more then 31 prims at present (there is talk of it being increased in the future after Havok 2). Each AV counts as a prim against that limit. So if hte vehical is to seat 12 then it can be no more then 19 prims. (this limit is only for when you want to enable physics, if physics is already enabled when people sit down it doesn't matter).

first person sits on the first prim (unless they click sit on a different prim with a sit target) second person sits on the second (with the same limitation) third person... you get the idea.

keep the seat prims rotation simple so you don't have to work to hard to position the av on it.

when you select thing the last prim selected is hte first prim and the second to last is the second prim etc.

all i can think of at the moment...

So is it absolutely necessary to make the prims (pardon my newbiehood showing here) physical? What happens if they are not physical, would you fall through the bottom or something?:D

The other thing I wanted to know, do some of you start out with just some sort of a shape, and a small part of a program, then build on it testing as you go?

(go easy on me, I'm only 2 weeks old ok?)

(to enable it on an object go into edit check the physics checkbox. to enable it with a script use llSetStatus)

normal vehicals use physics it gives more fluid motion and allows your vehical to interact with the world. So generaly speaking yes you need physics enabled.

Question....For some reason last night I dropped a Script into my newest hotrod and the car turned up on its side and I was sitting upright lol, looked like I was doing a slide on the side of my car.

So what did I do wrong. The seat was the last prim linked, and I put the script into the seat?? If anyone could help I would appreciate it!!

I know its something stupid I did and Im not seeing it :)

Vehicles have three directions, forward, sideways and up. (corresponding to the x, y and z axes).

When you turn an object in to a vehicle, unless the script explicitly redefines these directions, they are the x, y and z directions of the root primitive.

So the "up" (z) vector of your seat is probably pointing out to the side of the car, so that when it becomes a vehicle and tries to make its up axis point up, the car filps on it's side.

To fix this, you can either make your root primitive (the seat) face the way you want the vehicle to face, or edit the script, setting the VEHICLE_REFERENCE_FRAME parameter

and here it is, you do NOT need an open part of the vehicle for it to work. the last prim selected is where u sit (learned tht the hard way) wat i do is make my vehicle with no seat first, then, link it. now u can easily link the vehicle and the last prim is ur seat! no open part! hurray!:D
