Setting phantom on an attached prim makes avatar phantom?

I guess I'm trying to figure out or understand how these "long distance" teleporters work. In reading about one on slexchange it rezes a chair that the avatar sits on and I guess it either does the llSitTarget method or the chair "flys" the avatar to the location when it is beyond the 300m limit. Of course you have to worry about colliding with buildings and such.

So the obvious thing would be to make the avatar phantom. Am I on the wrong path here?

If the chair is non-physical and uses llSetPos for movement, you can fly through objects. I think.

Yeah. Non-physical movement, as with llSetPos, ignores collisions. To contrast, physical movement, as with general walking, flying, or llMoveToTarget, use this collision data.

Tangent to this, ways to make an avatar phantom crop up from time to time. The Lindens, historically, have plugged these "bugs" because of their ramifications on the combat sims. While many (most?) residents don't care about the combat system and would like this feature, it is a bit rare.
