Hi. My husband enjoys building homes. But at this point, we have to purchase already scripted doors and windows because we're clueless about scripting. I've tried some tut on it. Basically taught myself how to make an object yell at me when I click it. That's how far I've gotten! I've searched through here and see scripts for doors that others have donated. My problem, I cant seem to find anything that tells me how to go about using these pre-made scripts. I've looked through here. Haven't found anything. I've tried going to edit on an object, to the contents and create new script. Then copy and pasting the script I want to try into the new script and saving it. From the starting to the ending one. This appears to be the incorrect way to go about it.
Can someone please fill me in or point me to where I need to go to learn how I am supposed to do this? Any help on this would be appreciated.
TY

You're doing it right, the text should paste right into a new script in your object, thats what I've been doing (also just learning). Alternatively, many freebies in-world are full-mod, which means you can copy the scripts out or open and examine them. That may be a better first place to start (as they come with a fully functioning example). For example I found a box of freebie doors. Some even support locking/unlocking, etc. Feel free to message me in game if you need a copy (I think I got most of my freebies from the gnubie freebie sim). Try this link: http://www.wired.com/culture/lifestyle/news/2006/10/71965It has SLURL links to two good freebie stores. Or just search in-game for a location called "gnubie" and go poke around. Great stuff to be had, so much to learn

There's a 'bug' in this message forum's formatting of code. Occ asional ly, it inserts spa ces in the mid dle of c ode where they don't belong. As a result, you'll sometim es get 'compile errors' when you paste the code into SL. ----also, if you haven't found it, yet----- I suggest you use Timeless Prototype's door scripts. Its in the OLD WIKI here: http://rpgstats.com/wiki/index.php?title=LibraryTimelessLinkedDoor There's a long discussion thread to go with it. I think its pretty well documented. and its certainly well used...if you run into problems, just post.

hey sterling how does that wiki relate to lslWiki.net? They look to be almost identical? Is one a mirror of the other?

back when the lsl wiki got removed from LL's servers there was a crisis becuase the only available copy was from 2004 but i had made a really botched up mirror in june of 06, which was "fixed" and posted as the rpgstats mirror, since then theres been some updates to it but im not shure of all the details but yea it was originally from the /badgeo wiki, which we all know now as lslwiki.net [shameless plug] my mirror was updated fairly recently (4-7-7) and can be found here cheesefactory.us/lslwm[/shameless plug]

hahaha! Yes, the Wiki has been through several traumatic poundings and reorganizations...almost as bad as the RL company where I work! Sorry to be SOoo confusing..I have 5 or 6 wiki bookmarks...every time I need one, I just start clicking through them 'til I find one that's still online and has the stuff I'm after! /me scrambles off to add Cheese Wiki to the list...And clean out the non-working wiki addresses...
