Particle Scripting is driving me CRAZY!

I give up. Three bloody hours I have been playing with my particle script.

All I wanted is was a couple of nice effects:

1. Shower particles (bathroom shower, that is)

2. Fine mist particles (like the mist off a waterfall)

No matter how I try, all my particles look like golfballs, big small, but always round, never falling rain or shower water style.

What is the secret, please??

Have you been to the Particle Lab in the Teal region? Lots of good info & starter scripts there..

Yes, first place I went. Their shower sample script looked more like steam than rain or shower particles. But, I started with those sample particle scripts, and changed every parameter back and forth, but with never achieving the effect I wanted.

I have seen beautiful shower heads, fountains, rain and mist effects, so i know it can be done. I searched the wiki, found more parameters than were in the sample scripts, and played with those paramters too.

I have run out of steam (pardon the pun)

Can anyone help me?

Custom textures are the key...

If you're trying to achieve the effect using default particles then you'll find it almost impossible to avoid the 'golf-ball' syndrome.

The secret is to make your own textures and implement those into your particle effect - it's not always that easy either and you should expect to spend some time in Photoshop (or equivalent) getting the spray or steam effect just right. It became a bit easier when LL added the option to upload PNG files for textures as you don't have to be quite as clever with alpha channels (altho' mastering alpha channels can open up more cool effects!).

I sell a set of shower particle effects and they took forever to get right, but I'm slightly obsessive when it comes to particle effects...if you want to make your own then hit Photoshop first and avoid default particles at all costs...

Many thanks for the explanation Eristic. That will save me from re-attempting to do it with the default particles.

I would love to just simple buy the shower effects I need , but I have not been able to find any vendors who supply their shower products outside of SL (I am constructing bath, shower and fountains on another grid). That is why I have been practising myself, but Photoshop is well beyond my skills set, and I have a sim to get ready before next weekend.

Thanks again

Some of the water/steam type textures in the inventory library can occasionally do the trick, depending on the application. I believe they might be under "waterfall" or something like that. Only worth playing with for a little while to see if they're going to be adequate though. After a little tweaking, just create your own if it's not working out.
