I am a Newbie. This problem might be all in my head so please go easy on me :)

I ran into an interesting problem today. Someone payed me money to buy a product from me but instead of clicking Buy on the displayed object, they payed me directly.

Now, SL does not tell you what the money was paid for (AFAIK) so I could not tell if the money was paid by buying the product I had on display or by giving it to me directly. I had to take their word that they paid me directly and weren't trying to cheat :)

If this is a real problem and not something due to my lack of caffine early in the morning, how do people solve it?

Is there any API or method to know about when the owner changes for an object and do a llEmail to send an email? That could have avoided this lack of trust scenario this morning for me.

Thanks

You can use llInstantMessage to send u a notification when somone purchases something, that can be done from directly in your vendor and you dont have to worry about them rezzing it :}. Also if you look in your account history, it should say "such and such paid you" or "such and such paid thru object such and such" i think. hope that helps

If you look in your account history (world>account history) there is a difference under the sales/gifts tab.

If they paid $200 and paid into the object it shows as

200 - X paid into (object name)

if they paid you direct it shows as

200 - X paid you.

with dates, times etc. as well

Thanks all! I was not aware of the account history. 'll check it out later when I log in.

Also just noticed that changed(0x80) can tell me when the owner changes which can tell me this programmatically.

Cheers!
