I am posting in this forum at the suggestion of Data Linden after I posed this question on live help.
I am new. Someone I met showed me their place at 250 meters in the sky. Cloud cover is around 150 meters. I noticed however that I naturally sink when flying. I sink down to about 80 meters above the surface. I would like to know the laws of physics as regards this graviational problem, but my real question is, what do I need to script to allow me to fly unencombered?
BTW I cannot fly naturally as high as my friend flies using gadgets.
I am not looking to buy a gadget, I am looking for a scripting or attribute solution. Thanks for the help.

No, seriously.
Look up Arget Stonecutter, and go find his shop/lab/store whatever, and get you a Flight Feather. Those things are the bombizzletastic.
.. okay, no more double fudge yoohoo for me in the mornings.

Thanks but...

That doesn't answer my question. Sure, someone who has figured it out has created a gadget. I want the scripting basics for flight. I see nothing about the physics of flight in the LSL Wiki.
There is a nice tutorial there on building a vehnicle. However, there is no explanation for the 80 meters or discussion of how much Z axis velocity is required to compensate for the effect of gravity above 80 m.
The article mentions llBouancy, but there are no pages found when searching for llBouyancy.

I'll drop an item called X-Flight, Carbon Rod X on you in world (and the notecard on how to use it). It will let you fly as fast and as high as you like. The script in it is open source so if you are interested in how it works you can open it and see, otherwise you can just use and enjoy.

There's both a "fly height" and hover height limit without gadgets. I think they're 200m and 150m roughly, but not sure. I don't know that anyone has ever sorted out the precise details of it all, One of the Linden's is your best bet, Andrew probably.
The way to avoid it... various push or move to target options all get used and override the default "sinking."

Just look up the "Flight Assist" script in the library here. You can see how they did it and it also works great. Just drop it in a prim and attach as a hud. /15/4e/134594/1.htmlAfter looking at the script you will see that assisted flight is actually more complicated then you would think. Need to make adjustments for the height that you are at. Pretty interesting.

First I want to apologize for not knowing the script name off hand but I did a search looking for the same answer you are seeking. I found one post where the guy gave us his script. I copied the script and pasted it into a New Script I created in game and wala.. a script for flying high.
So I created a tiny little ring and made it into an earring. It has a hover feature that stops me from sinking. I can tell it a multiple for flight, which I keep set at 15x. It's amazing how fast you can fly to 3000m.
One of my time wasting laugh my arse off events is to fly really high then turn off fly. hahahaha. A freefall right into the ground, unless I turn on as the ground approaches.
This item really comes in handy. I made some structures on the ground then typed in a Z coordinate for 550m then flew up there and used that platform to create a floating island. I love this script and my Ear Ring of Flight. hahah
