whether I do llRezAtRoot or llRezObject it doesn't rez them in the angle that they were made in. I tried playing with rotation...any ideas/help appreciated :)

Just to be clear, you're trying to rez an object consisting of a linked set of prims, and you want that linked set to be at a certain rotation, yes?

If so, the rot parameter of either llRezObject or llRezAtRoot will be applied to the root prim of the linked set, in global terms, and all the child prims will be oriented relative to the root.

Also, it helps simplify matters if the root prim in the original linked set is at an "easy" rotation, like Euler <0,0,0>.

so if i make a linked set say 4 discs and link them then pop them out of a box even though i made them in one direction it will somewhat arbitrarily pop them out in a direction other than that?

They pop out at whatever rotation you tell them to in the rezzing function of your choice.

Objects in inventory don't remember the position or rotation they were last rezzed at in world.

It's not arbitrary. It rezzes at, either as Seifert said, the rotation you specify if rezzed by script, or otherwise, with it's root prim at ZERO_ROTATION.

If you plan to be dragging it out of inventory to rez it (i.e., not by script), you can do what I suggested and rotate your object exactly how you want it to rez, and then make sure that you have its root prim (even if it's just an extra prim you link in) at ZERO_ROTATION.
