A neighbour has installed a greeter on their land that overlaps my land dramatically - and means my visitor keep walking in and out of its scan range and get innundated with notecards - is there anyway I can stop this? This isn't a dispute between neighbours - we are both wondering how to fix the situation?

Your neighbour could incorporate the llOverMyLand function into the sending bit, so that it checks whether the person is over their land or not. (Assuming it isn't rented, or is rented via a covenant.) Or, they could just reduce the range so that their greeter only sends things to people who are actually entering their shop. If the greeter is placed near the entrance it only needs a range of 10m or so.

The exact details would depend on the script used, but it is certainly possible.

By the way, as a consumer I find automatic givers very irritating and I know a lot of other people do too. Touch givers are _far_ better as they give people the option whether to have a big fat notecard appear on their screen. Perhaps you might wish to point that out.

I'd like to agree with the last part of Ordinal's post. Automatic-givers are VERY annoying. Touch-givers are a much better option.

You neighbour could use something along the lines of the one-time giver we talked about a few days ago to make sure it doesn't give stuff to people over and over - the list of avs would probably have to be trimmed regularly, but it should cut down on the vast majority of it. And llOverMyLand would help too.

And yes, touch givers are so much classier.

At the very least a dialog could be presented (only once by sensor, repeat only by touch) which asks if they wish to receive the notecard(s). Some may ignore or fail to notice a touch sign for the notecards (then again, some may ignore or fail to notice a dialog). In some places it is quite important that visitors receive the notecard (note on etiquette at the Sistine chapel for example) but I'd rather have a polite dialog as opposed to a notecard thrust in my face (snowcrash scroll anyone?).

I actually made a giver that works like nand and stephen describe...(dialog, one time give, responds to touch after the first time) and it self trims it's list.... llOverMyLand? ooo haven't used that before... nice addition

have your neighbor IM me... =) get 'em fixed up, no time

EDIT: going to add a "no don't ask again" button so they KNOW it's one shot =)

(I hate the auto gives with ugly son-n-so gave you a notecard, that fill up my trash)
