Im trying to make a ship that when touched by the owner, unlinks everyhing exept the escape pod, makes everything physical (including pod) and then everything falls to the ground. Would this crash the sim? (considering all the physical objects) I appreciate any help; I can't script my way out of a wet paper bag.

If everything is kept physical after unlinking, it more then likely will. In order to prevent that from happening, you must set the ship to phantom before setting it physical and unlinking it. If you dont, Havok's poor interpenitration handling will grind the sim to a halt (or at the very least, slow it down significantly).

A prim can only break its link to the object or all the links of the object. So you would have to put a "break and fall" type of script in each of the ship's prim you want to detach instead of putting scripts in the escape pod prims, and trigger all of them with a link message.

Ah, and each of these scripts need link_change permission.

If your pods are multiple prims and are linked to the ship, you might also have a problem. If you make all the ship's prims unlink, youll need to have the pods relink themselves. Perhaps have the pods rez instead of being attached perminantly to the ship?

Paging RacerX Gullwing!

Seriously -- I've seen RacerX do some interesting things with exploding objects that might bear on what you're attempting to do. Maybe give him an IM?
