Hello everyone!

There are some people that make teddy bears where the avatar is capable of hugging them. I am wondering how they make that happen? Any ideas?

Thanks!

Requires making a hug animation and then incorporating that into the script. Reply if you want more detailed information :)

When the teddy bear is attached it will run a scripted animation override causing your av to hug. The animation may well be a custom animation.

You can get a freebie tool that lets you make custom animation files from here: http://qavimator.org

As a result of having made my one and only ever custom animation for SL I concluded it takes a lot more talent than just technical skill. :p

Thank you, Baron! And yes, I would love to get additional information, please. I make teddy bears and would really like to add that hug script/animation to them. Would you know a lil more on how I can make that happen? Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Well, you need an animation for the avatar. There are some freebie hug anims around.

Then, you can put the animation and a script in the teddy bear. The user interacts with the script.

What you, as the "artist", need to do is decide on some kind of user interface. For example, should the user carry the teddy bear around, and randomly hug it every once in awhile? Or should the user have to type something like /hug bear to hug the bear. Or, should a touch on the bear cause the hug. It's all up to you.

Personally, I like command line. So if *I* am carrying the bear, and *I* type some command like ]hug, then my avatar hugs the bear.

also consider what you want the carrier to do with the bear when typing. If it's for a child av.. it might be appropriate for the holder to hold the bear out at arm's length, and "dance" it around as if the bear was talking. Or the carrier could hug the bear up tight and shyly "hide behind" it instead of typing.

Everyone, you're awesome. Thank you for the suggestions. I like them all. I think the easiest way for now is maybe try the /hug bear thing. I sorta like that idea myself. I also really like the idea of the avatar shyly hidding behind the bear when typing. This would become a keyboard override, which could sell good with kids. Thank you all again. :)
