How do I get the end of a flexi object to point at someone? I've seen a few things the do this.

Do you mean the flexible end? or the stationary end?

As far as I'm aware you cannot perfectly control where the flexi end will point. You could have the stationary end point Away from something and perhaps make the flexi stats vary....in that while something is true, the flexi stats are X, which is only slightly flexi, while when it's false, the flexi stats are Y, which is Very flexi.

This would give the illusion of it pointing at something specific (sorta like going taut)

You can set the force being applied to a flexi-object using llSetPrimitiveParams, you need to calculate the force required to point in the correct direction though, and it needs to recalculate an awful lot to keep it fairly smooth.

You have probably seen the weird, yet cool, tentacles plant that when you get close enough all of the tentacles reach out to you. I love that thing. It uses a script like this one in the wiki examples:

*cough* particles *cough*

It's not entirely flexi prims, there are particles in the mix too, at least in the one's I've seen.

Hmm, particles can work too, and are nice in that they don't require an intensive sensor.
If you are doing a tentacle garden type thing though, for the love of God do not put that script in every single one! Just have it in one of them, link them together and use link-messages to pass the avatar's co-ordinates around. Having each of them running continuous sensors, all returning basically the same results is a horrifying notion :)
