If you use an alternate editor to edit scripts, how do you upload them to SL ? Can you download the ones that you have up there for editing ?

Typically this is done using what, to Windows users, at least, is called the clipboard. To move a script from the Second Life viewer into an external editor, open the script, highlight all the text inside, and choose Copy from the Edit menu. Then, open your external editor with a blank file and choose Edit > Paste. There are keyboard shortcuts to speed the process:

* Ctrl+A (Select All)
* Ctrl+C (Copy)
* Ctrl+V (Paste)

Copying a script back into Second Life is accomplished by simply reversing the process. You can create a new script using Create > New Script from your Inventory window in SL, then paste the script into it. And there you have it!

That seems kind of awkward if you have a script a couple thousand lines long.

If one script is a couple of thousand lines long. Upload is not the problem. We are talking LSL here, not MS operating system. I humbly suggest you see if you can make your code more compact or modular.

There's a point there. I do think scripts should eventually be added to the types of things you can upload from the File menu.

Does copy and paste really care how long the script is?

There's a point, too--a compiled script gets 16k... it's gone quick

I didn't think modularity was an option with LSL.
I'll go do some more reading and ask more if I need to.
Cut and paste will work, I was just curious.

Not within reason.. I know I've done copy/pastes of over 100k of text many times before.

It's a necessity sometimes, and not just because of the 16K cap. Some LSL features are one-per-script, and if you have an object that needs to be more versatile, you have to add additional scripts to provide the needed support.

ctrl A, ctrl C, ctrl V. Done!
and if you use Scite-EZ and I am sure most of the alternate editors then it has a shortcut to send the script to the clipboard.

What's the problem??????

You hear this question often enough, I now wonder: Is there an OS that doesn't use a clipboard type facility?
