Importing non-prim 3D models into SL

I'm working on a project where we are attempting to take a 3D model of a store and display it in a multi-user environment such as Second Life. The problem that we're seeing is that we are getting our 3D models in the form of points and meshes rather than primitives. They are probably going to be encoded as X3D files. Is there any feasible method to get models such as these into Second Life? I was thinking something similar to the blender export method, say import the X3D into blender, then export that to Second Life, but it looks like that method will only work for primitive based models.

Any ideas?

As far as I know,

All objects in SL are going to be Primitive based models unless you use a Sculptie texture object to import a low polygon mesh. (The Sculptie Mesh is still not an exact representation of what was created in your Application)

Sculpties have a limited number of vertices so it tried to replicate your 3D mesh by evenly distributing the Verticies. Not allways to the desired end result.

Some info on Sculpted Prims:

I've heard rumours of an export for Maya, which is read by an LSL script that recreates it using SL prims. I've never seen it. Maybe check the builder tips forum too.

There are various approaches...one that might interest you is to make your external model, and then take a screen shot of it, or parts of it. Then, make a big simple in-world model of it, and paste the pictures on.

That way, you get the illusion of all the detail you want without the prims...

Another resource you could try is this:

I have not tried it yet but from what I gather it can convert your .obj Wavefront into prims in game.
