So,

If I accidentally sent something aloft above my land, and couldn't catch it, does it somehow eventually vanish, or is it part of my lands prim count forever?

(I know I can return all objects on my land, but I'd REEEALLLY not go that drastic, unless it was absolutely necessary)

Thanks.

Catch it?
I'd find someone with a tracker/scanner and locate the object that way.

Well given it was going straight up at a great rate of knots, and I jumped off at about 3000m, and that was a week ago, I'm not sure a tracker could find it.

Above that height with no avatar attached, it will either go to your lost and found or be deleted. If it was temporary on rez, then it'll get deleted with no notification

It should have been returned, I think the top limit for physical movement of prims is 4096m, once it hits that height it gets autoreturned to you. If that hasn't happened, then it's probably somewhere between 3000 and 4096m where you jumped off it... Getting up there can be a pain though. You'll need another vehicle to get up there, under control this time!

I don' remember it being returned. It was the freebie skydiving thing made by Philip Linden. I can't edit it to see if it was temp or not, as it takes off as soon as it rezzes. I suppose I could turn off script on my block and see.

I thought turning off scripts only applied to others.

If it is physical you might be able to catch it inside a house?

You're right, misunderstanding on my part. But somehow while doing that I managed to check the code, and it is die at edge, a basic bullet, so I think I understand it all now. In fact my new understanding has allowed me to create a nice sky platform in the stratosphere at 1500m :)
