I thought I saw something about an LSL function that swaps animations - something like llChange_animation - but I can find anything about it. Was I dreaming?

What I really want to know is if there is a way to know when a non-looping animation has reached the end so that the next animation can be started, or is it just a case of using the timer?

I suspect you may have been dreaming, unless someone contributed a user function somewhere. In any case, you need to use a timer - there's no event fired when an animation ends, and remember since we're talking about a client-side effect an animation might appear to end at slightly different times for each person viewing due to variances in speed of the asset being downloaded etc.

If you're looking for a smooth transition from animation A to animation B, one thing to try is having animation A loop just the last frame. (I forget whether the loop start slider winds up at 100% or 99% to accomplish this, but no matter - all the way up.) Looping the first animation in this way ensures that it won't "end" or "start over" before the timer runs out, creating an awkward jump. Instead you end up with, at worst, a brief static pause while the second animation downloads and takes over.

Thank you Anti! I'd wondered about the possible different timings of people's computers, but the last frame tip is excellent - thank you!
