Hi

I have question about Scanner / Radar range. I saw some SIM scanner that can scan ALL ppl on SIM. Such scanner have UUID from all ppl on SIM and also know the direction where everone is looking.

It seems there no limit range for them and there no helper prims like temporary probes.

Can anyone say how they work because SLS only tells there 96m limit...

The sim scanners all use prims with a sensor in it, that moves around the sim imo.

Some probably use lots of sensor prims to constantly update the informations on the avatars position.

But since llGetObjectDetails() was introduced, you only need to rez those sensor prims rarely. Because you can make the scripts in the icons/beacons find out the position and rotation - after you received the UUID from a sensor.

I would be suprised if it used no helpers at all...

96 is the max *reliable* range, but you can occasionally pick up avs farther out because of a glitch in how the sims process Av's near the sim borders using sensor repeat (at least that's what anecdotal experience has shown me)....

it might be possible to place a scanner at 0,0,0 and pick up interesting results though (never tried)... also a single sensor would still be limited to 16 results.
